Not remotely everything about me, but probably to much.
ASH KALB MAKES STUFF WORK, AND MAKES STUFF THAT WORKS WORK BETTER
Much to the dismay of Ash's parents, upon receiving his first computer at age 8, he promptly dismantled it. Aggressively. Fortunately, he had it together again and booting DOS the very next day, and had dialed his first BBS the day after that.
After an undergrad career at Cornell University's College of Arts and Sciences (focusing on history, political economy and game theory), and a law degree from Columbia Law School, Ash spent several years as a Corporate / M&A / Securities attorney at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom.
Technology and its future have always, however, remained Ash's first love. Leaving Skadden with the goal of helping his friends and their growing roster of pioneering tech companies navigate the legal and business challenges of the startup world, Ash founded the vintage science fiction publishing company / brick and mortar bookshop Singularity&Co in DUMBO, Brooklyn, and used it as the secret headquarters of Reversity Ventures, an early Silicon Alley incubator. Both operated with a philosophy that they wouldn't want to have any client who didn't want to meet in a sci fi bookstore.
Singularity / Reversity soon became something more than an incubator, and as it walked the line between hacker clubhouse and startup factory, special things happened. In that bookshop, Ash and 3 of his closest friends started White Ops. Even while building the internet's future, the founders never failed to pause long enough to ring up customers buying paperbacks when the need arose.
Half a decade later, White Ops is not just the cornerstone of awareness, and the front line in the fight against sophisticated, malicious bots and associated types of malware / scams; it also mitigates cost and impact that all types of fraud have on our lives. It not only defends the internet and makes it a safer place, it has also recently been named one of the US' 20th fastest growing tech companies by Deloitte, and received numerous other awards and accolades.
Ash is continuing the fight to defend the internet as the Co-Founder and COO of a stealth startup that sits at the intersection of ecommerce, decentralization, blockchain and machine law.
Ash is also a founding advisor of and served as COO/General Counsel of Sentieo, a next generation financial data and analysis platform. Sentieo combines traditional and emerging data sources with analytical insight, research management, and world class collaboration tools. In doing so it aims to democratize access to financial data, while building a platform for the aggregation of traditional and alternative data, research, and analysis that has been built from the ground up with mobility, agility, scaleability, speed, security and compliance as core design principles.
As a member of the Board of Managers of Gemini, Ash gets to do some of the coolest work he could ever imagine. Born and built in the US, and designed from the ground up with a focus on proactive and strong relationships with regulators and major financial institutions, Gemini is the most secure, compliant, advanced and well regulated cryptocurrency exchange in the world. It might be where Ash has the most fun these days.
Ash is also a founding board member of lighting technology innovator Symmetry Labs, the non profit Internet Civil Engineering Institute, and the Signal Media Project. He also serves on the boards of and/or advises several other high growth companies, and is a proud member of the Rutgers University Cybersecurity Advisory Board.
Ash and his dog Robot split their time the Hudson Valley, Brooklyn, and Amagansett. For fun he flies airplanes, rows, skis, bikes, hikes, kayaks, and spends long nights in his workshop building and playing with laser cutters, 3D printers, CNC mills and other tools he sort of understands.
